About connection detection

Provider detection uses network information supplied by our host. Your internet provider and the selected test server are separate. If the host cannot identify your network, the provider is shown as unavailable. No IP address or provider is saved in test history.

Measurement engine: LibreSpeed · LGPLv3 · GPLv3. Independent of Ookla.

Behind the test

Download

How quickly your device receives data. Think streaming, browsing and downloading files.

HIGHER IS BETTER

Upload

How quickly you send data. Think video calls, cloud backups and sharing your work.

HIGHER IS BETTER

Ping

How quickly the test network responds. A smaller delay means a snappier connection.

LOWER IS BETTER

Jitter

How much your response time varies. Consistency helps keep calls and games smooth.

Have another question?
How do I check my internet speed right now?+

Select Start speed test above. Keep this tab open while your browser measures download, upload, latency and jitter against the selected measurement network. Pause other downloads for a cleaner baseline.

What is a good internet speed?+

It depends on simultaneous use. As planning estimates, allow 5–10 Mbps for light browsing and about 15–25 Mbps per 4K stream, plus headroom. Upload capacity and stable latency matter for calls and gaming.

Is this a Wi-Fi speed test too?+

Yes. On Wi-Fi, it measures your device’s full path through the wireless network to the test server. Compare a wired test with a Wi-Fi test to help distinguish a coverage problem from an internet service issue.

Why does my result differ from my internet plan?+

Your device, router, Wi-Fi signal, background traffic, VPN and the route to the test server can limit a result. A short browser test estimates available performance; it does not certify your provider’s line rate.

Does the test use my mobile data?+

Yes. The sustained test can use hundreds of MB or several GB, depending on your speed. Data charges may apply. You can stop the test at any time.

Are my results saved?+

Only if you enable Remember results on this device. History is kept in your browser and can be cleared. The selected measurement provider receives test traffic; read the privacy policy for details.
